Many of the sidewalk curbs (kerbs) in downtown San Felipe are painted with a parking restriction color code. They are rarely enforced, but it's useful to know what they mean as the same codes exist in Mexicali.
This information comes from the current Mexicali reglamento de transito publication (pdf, in Spanish).
Red Stripe
A curb painted red means no parking at all permitted.
White Stripe
A white curb is a public transport stop (I think also the taxi rank). Not very heavily used in San Felipe yet, but the "coming soon" urban bus service may increase how often this is seen.
Yellow Stripe
Reserved parking is indicated by a yellow curb, and is only an offence if the party it has been reserved for complains. Some stores have this but the marking may not always be official...
Blue Stripe
Disabled parking has the internationally understood blue curb. However, unlike most countries, the blue curb also permits loading and unloading (by anybody).
Green Stripe
A green curb indicated parking for a maximum of two hours, unless a sign says otherwise. This is one rule that is even less likely to be enforced in San Felipe!

Believe me when I say the Yellow curb is enforced at Fat Boys on Corner of Chetumal & Mar de Cortez. My daughters car was towed from there one nite & she paid the fine to get it back from impound. It helps tho if you know the owner of the resturant.:-)
