Cable TV has arrived in some parts of downtown San Felipe, from Omni Cable. There will also be internet available via the cable later.
Coverage Area
At present, Omni Cable are building out their system in San Felipe. Their limited coverage area so far is downtown. It's unlikely they'll ever reach outlying areas like El Dorado Ranch, especially as their TV service is aimed almost entirely at the Spanish speaking market.
Cable TV
Initially, there are two basic packages, Paquete Minibasico with 30 channels for 154 pesos per month, and Paquete Basico with 88 channels for 308 pesos per month.
In the channel listings, there is no indication which channels are in Spanish, English, or bilingual.
CNN in English (channel 85) and American Network (channel 86, mainly CBS shows, in English) are listed in Paquete Basico. Other than those, the Omni Cable TV is likely to be of very limited interest to a non-Spanish speaker.
Internet
Omni do plan to add internet service also, but no date is available yet. They already offer internet in San Luis Rio Colorado and Nogales, where their internet is extremely basic with speeds of 256 kb/s, 512 kb/s and 1Mb/s.
Unless they are going to install a newer technology system in San Felipe (which is a possibility) their internet won't really compete with Telnor, not worth waiting for.
They also plan to offer internet phone service (VOIP), again no date has been set for this.
Office
The office for Omni Cable is at Ave Mar Jonico 769. That's the street directly across from the Bancomer and furniture store on Chetumal, and the office is half a block down on the right. Tel. 577 1928. To open an account, one utility bill and one form of official picture id are needed.
Megacable
Omni Cable agreed to be aquired by Megacable in June 2010, so the local system will probably be rebranded eventually. The much larger Megacable may also have the resources for a more sophisticated service. Omni TV only had 62,000 cable TV customers and 3,000 internet customers spread across small towns in Sonora and Baja California.
